Live preview with math and diagrams
KaTeX equations, Mermaid diagrams, highlighted code, tables and footnotes render as you type, scroll-synced with the editor.
Coming soon to the Mac App Store
Write once. Publish anywhere.
A native Mac editor for technical writers. Write Markdown with equations, diagrams and code, see exactly how ten platforms will show it, and publish a draft in one click. Open a whole folder as a project, then sync it across your Macs or write it together with your team.
Free download · One-time Pro unlock · Optional Cloud and Team subscriptions · macOS 26
Write with math, diagrams, code and screenshots. Markdown Studio works out how each platform will show them.
KaTeX equations, Mermaid diagrams, highlighted code, tables and footnotes render as you type, scroll-synced with the editor.
The Publish sheet shows your article the way Medium, Substack, LinkedIn, Ghost, WordPress, Google Docs, email, DEV, Hashnode and GitHub will display it, lists exactly what changes, and copies a version made for each.
Send a draft to DEV, Ghost, WordPress or a static site in a GitHub repository, with your images uploaded. Nothing goes live until you publish it there.
Fixed a typo? Update every post published from the document in one go: your blog, DEV and your site all get the fix.
Catch a missing title or description, skipped heading levels, images without alt text, code without a language and broken links.
Apple Intelligence suggests headlines, a subtitle and summary, tags and a social post. It runs on-device, so your draft stays private.
Turn a code block into a shareable image, with syntax themes, gradient backgrounds, line numbers and an optional window frame.
Press Space on a Markdown file in Finder to see it rendered, equations included.
Plain .md files with autosave, versions and iCloud Drive. Sandboxed, with no tracking, and no account unless you want Cloud or Team. In 10 languages.
Open a folder of Markdown files as a project, with an Explorer, tabs and History. Projects are free, and they stay on your Mac.
Choose File › Open Folder… (⌥⌘O). The Explorer lists the folder’s files: open them in tabs, and create, rename, move or duplicate files without leaving the window.
Search every Markdown file in the project with ⇧⌘F, with Match Case, Whole Words and regular expressions.
Every save keeps a version for 90 days, and cloud projects keep every change. Compare a version with the current text, side by side or as one list of changes, and restore it.
Press ⇧⌘O and type part of a name to open any file. ⇧⌘P finds any command, with its shortcut.
Line and column, word count and the document’s language, plus the sync state and who’s here in a cloud project.
Edit a file in another app and the project picks up the change. If you were editing it too, you choose which version to keep.
Markdown Studio Cloud and Markdown Studio Team are optional subscriptions for projects that live on more than one Mac, or have more than one writer.
Upload a project and it syncs across your Macs, with its full history kept in the cloud and 20 GB of storage.
Cloud projects stay on your Mac as plain Markdown files. Keep writing offline, and your changes sync when you’re back online.
Sign in with Apple, or with a link we email you. You need an account only for Cloud and Team.
Several people type in the same document at once, with named cursors and a list of who’s here.
Comment on any passage, reply and resolve. When a draft is ready, ask for a review: teammates approve it or request changes.
Owner, Admin, Editor or Viewer for each member, invite links that expire after 7 days, and a feed of who changed what. Everyone on the team gets Pro and Cloud.
Markdown Studio is a free download. Pro is a one-time purchase. Cloud and Team are subscriptions that renew automatically until you cancel them. Prices are in US dollars; the App Store shows yours in your currency.

Open Publish from the toolbar, or choose File › Publish… (⌥⌘P). Every destination gets a preview and a list of what changes. Then:
| Destination | How it gets there |
|---|---|
| Medium, Substack, LinkedIn | Copy as rich text, then paste into the platform’s editor. |
| Ghost, WordPress | Copy as rich text, or publish a draft directly (Pro). |
| Google Docs, Email & Web | Copy as rich text. |
| DEV | Copy as Markdown, or publish a draft directly (Pro). |
| Hashnode | Copy as Markdown. |
| GitHub | Copy as Markdown, or commit the post to your site’s repository (Pro). |
Equations and diagrams a platform can’t show become images, and What changes tells you about everything else.
In Publish, choose the platform and check the preview. Click Copy for Medium (the button names the platform you chose), or press ⇧⌘C. Then open the platform’s editor in your browser and press ⌘V.
Medium and LinkedIn remove pasted images. Drag each equation or diagram from Images, on the right of Publish, onto its ⟦ placeholder ⟧. Screenshots and other images from your Mac can’t travel on the clipboard, so upload those in the platform’s editor.
Direct publishing is part of Markdown Studio Pro. First connect the account: choose Markdown Studio › Settings (⌘,), click Accounts, click Add Account, fill in the details and click Verify & Save.
Then choose the destination in Publish and click Publish Draft. Markdown Studio creates a draft with your images uploaded, and never makes a post public: review it on the site and publish it there. On GitHub, new posts get a draft flag in their front matter; delete it and update the post when you’re ready to go live.
Open Publish and choose the same destination. The button changes to Update on Ghost (or wherever you published), and clicking it updates the same post instead of creating a new one. Markdown Studio keeps track with a line it adds to your document’s front matter, like ghost_id, so keep that line.
When a document is published in two or more places, Update Everywhere (Pro) updates all of them at once.
Choose File › Open Folder… (⌥⌘O) and pick the folder. It opens in a project window: the Explorer on the left lists its files, each file you open gets a tab, and the status bar shows where you are.
Publish (⌥⌘P), Checks, Assist and export work on the file in front, just as they do in a single document. Focus Mode is ⇧⌘D.
Open the file and choose View › Show History (⇧⌘Y). Every save keeps a version for 90 days, up to 100 versions a file. Select a version and click Compare with Current to see what changed, then click Restore This Version.
In a cloud project, History holds every change since the file was uploaded, with who made it. Restoring adds the old text as a new change, so the current text stays in History too.
No. Writing, Publish previews and copies, Checks, Assist, projects and History, export, and Pro’s direct publishing all work without one. You need a Markdown Studio Cloud account only for Cloud and Team.
There’s no password. Choose Markdown Studio › Settings (⌘,), click Cloud, then sign in with Apple, or enter your email address and open the link we send you on the same Mac.
Documents and projects you don’t upload stay on your Mac, or in iCloud Drive if you keep them there. We never see them.
Projects you upload to Markdown Studio Cloud, with their history and comments, are stored by Google Cloud in the EU, in Belgium. Each Mac you sign in on keeps them as plain Markdown files too, so Finder and Quick Look still see them. Sign-in goes through Google’s Identity Platform, which runs in the United States. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what’s stored and for how long.
Yes. Writing, previews, Checks, Assist, projects and History all work offline. Publishing and Check Links need a connection.
Cloud projects are kept on your Mac, so you can keep editing them offline. The status bar says Offline, and your changes sync as soon as you’re back online. Seeing your teammates’ cursors needs a connection.
The team’s owner subscribes to Markdown Studio Team, then creates the team in a project window’s Team panel and invites people with links. Each link works for 7 days and for one person, and it can be limited to one email address. Members don’t need a subscription of their own.
Upload a project to the team (File › Upload to Markdown Studio Cloud…), and everyone in the team can open it from the Cloud panel and type in the same documents at once, with live cursors, comments (Edit › Add Comment, ⌥⌘M) and reviews. Roles decide what each person can do:
$9.99 a seat a month, or $99.99 a seat a year, in packs. The owner counts as a seat.
| Seats | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | $29.99 | $299.99 |
| 5 | $49.99 | $499.99 |
| 10 | $99.99 | $999.99 |
| 25 | $249.99 | $2,499.99 |
Prices are in US dollars; the App Store shows yours in your currency. Moving to a bigger pack starts at once, and the App Store refunds the unused part of the current one. A smaller pack starts when the current one renews. Need more than 25 seats? Email us.
Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It unlocks direct publishing to DEV, Ghost, WordPress and GitHub, Update Everywhere, and Code Image. Members of a Markdown Studio Team get Pro included while they’re in the team.
Everything else is free: the editor and live preview, Publish previews and copies for all ten destinations, Checks, Assist, projects and Quick Look.
Pro belongs to your Apple Account, so you never pay for it twice. Make sure the App Store is signed in with the Apple Account you bought Pro with, open Markdown Studio, then click Restore Purchase in the Markdown Studio Pro window, or in Settings › General. Pro unlocks again in a moment.
Cloud and Team subscriptions belong to your Markdown Studio Cloud account. Sign in to the same account in Settings › Cloud; if your plan doesn’t show up, click Restore Purchases there.
Still locked? Check which Apple Account the App Store is using, then try again, or email us.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them, and the App Store manages them. Choose Markdown Studio › Settings (⌘,), click Cloud, then click Manage… to open your subscriptions in the App Store, where you can change or cancel your plan. You can also open the App Store, click your name, click Account Settings, then click Manage next to Subscriptions.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to stop the next renewal. You keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for.
When a subscription ends, your projects stay readable and you can export them; editing and syncing stop until you subscribe again. If a team owner’s subscription ends, the team’s projects become read-only for everyone in it. Deleting the app or your account doesn’t cancel a subscription.
It covers Markdown Studio Pro: with Family Sharing on, everyone in your family gets Pro at no extra cost.
It doesn’t cover Cloud or Team. A subscription belongs to the Markdown Studio Cloud account that bought it, so it isn’t shared with your family. To work with others, use Team: it includes Pro and Cloud for every member.
Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple, so refunds are too, and we never see your payment details. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, choose Request a refund, then select the purchase and tell Apple why. Apple reviews the request and lets you know by email.
In your Mac’s Keychain. API keys, application passwords and tokens are saved there by macOS, not in your documents. They aren’t synced to your other devices and are never sent to us: each one goes only to the service it belongs to, over an encrypted connection. Your Markdown Studio Cloud sign-in is kept in the Keychain too.
Removing an account in Settings › Accounts deletes its key from your Keychain. Give each key only the access it needs, like a GitHub token for a single repository, and revoke it on the service’s website whenever you like.
Not unless you create a Markdown Studio Cloud account. There’s no analytics, advertising or tracking. Your articles stay on your Mac unless you publish them, and then they go only to the services you connect. Assist runs on your Mac.
With an account, we store what Cloud and Team need: your email address, name and account ID, the projects you upload with their history, comments and reviews, your teams and invites, and the App Store records of your purchases, never your payment details. Read the Privacy Policy for the details.
Choose Markdown Studio › Settings (⌘,), click Cloud, then click Delete Account…. Your personal cloud projects and their history are deleted for good, you leave every team you’re in, and the copies on this Mac are removed. If you own a team, hand it over to another member or delete it first.
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription, so cancel it in the App Store too. You can also email us to delete your account.
Assist uses Apple Intelligence on your Mac, so it needs:
If Assist can’t run, the Assist tab in the inspector says why. It writes in your article’s language whenever Apple Intelligence supports that language.
Choose Apple menu › System Settings, click General, then click Login Items & Extensions. Under Extensions, open Quick Look and turn on Markdown Studio.
If Markdown Studio isn’t in the list, open the app once so macOS registers its extension, then look again.
Markdown Studio is sandboxed, so macOS needs your permission before it can show images from your document’s folder. When you see “Images next to this document need your permission to appear,” click Allow in the banner, then click Allow in the window that opens. Markdown Studio remembers the permission.
If you closed that banner, click Inspector in the toolbar, click Document, then click Show Images From This Folder. Image paths are relative to the document, so keep images in its folder or in a folder inside it.
